Privacy and seclusion with a breathtaking view of the soaring Massif du Tabe, La Couche is situated at the end of the lane in a tiny hamlet, only a few minutes drive from the small village of Montferrier with its shops including an excellent baker/coffee shop, general store, restaurant, tennis courts and children's playground. A footpath runs down the mountain to the village from the house. The walk takes about ten minutes down and about fifteen back up depending on your level of fitness.
The beautiful medieval towns of Mirepoix, Foix and Carcassonne are all within easy driving distance, as is the Cathar castle of Montségur (views of which can be seen from the lane) and the recreational lake at Montbel (perfect for swimming, sailing and fishing). The ski resort of Les Monts d'Olmes is 16 kms away. There is also horseriding 15 minutes away at Les Crins de Montsegur. The house is the perfect starting point for many walks to suit all abilities and ambitions.
La Couche is full of character and charm... It will sleep up to a maximum of 12 people (three double bedrooms, one twin, two bunk rooms) with new bathroom, new shower room and 3 loos. There is ample hot water and winter heating by means of a very efficient wood burning stove. The kitchen/sitting room has an open fireplace with exposed beams leading to the conservatory. This has a dining table for 12 opening onto the large terrace where there is another good sized table for al fresco dining with plenty of shade - this terrace overlooks the pool. The kitchen is well equipped with dishwasher, fridge and washing machine and a small dining table. In the garden surrounding the house due south are several other places to sit, eat and relax in shade or sun.
The south-facing garden is about 2 acres leading away from the house down to a tiny stream, dry in the summer months. There are secure gates leading to the road which ends outside Couche and turns into the footpath. The road is extremely quiet. Around the house are flower beds and gravelled areas with steps leading down to the grass and bottom field which is grazed by our neighbours' cows. There is a child's swing and plenty of room to run around, explore and play games.
Close to the house is the heated swimming pool which is 5m x 6m and approximately 1m deep. It is totally enclosed with a secure gate. You may sunbathe here in complete privacy. For those of you with small children we provide, a travel cot, a playpen, a highchair and portable highchair, a buggy (fully reclining to suit birth upwards, with cosy toes, raincover and sun parasol). There are two adult bicycles for guest use, one racing bike and one mountain bike.
